Signal-to-Noise Ratio of Intensity Interferometry Experiments with Highly Asymmetric X-ray Sources

چکیده
We discuss the signal-to-noise ratio of an intensity interferometry experiment for a highly asymmetric x-ray source using different aperture shapes in front of the photodetectors. It is argued that, under ideal conditions using noiseless detectors and electronics, the use of slitshaped apertures, whose widths are smaller but whose lengths are much greater than the transverse coherence widths of the beam in the corresponding directions, provides no signal-tonoise advantage over the use of pinhole apertures equal to or smaller than the coherence area. As with pinholes, the signal-to-noise ratio is determined solely by the count degeneracy parameter and the degree of coherence of the beam. This contrasts with the signal-to-noise ratio enhancement achievable using slit-shaped apertures with an asymmetric source in a Young's experiment.

Non-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...
متن کاملAcoustic correlated sources direction finding in the presence of unknown spatial correlation noise
In this paper, a new method is proposed for DOA estimation of correlated acoustic signals, in the presence of unknown spatial correlation noise. By generating a matrix from the signal subspace with the Hankel-SVD method, the correlated resource information is extracted from each eigen-vector. Then a joint-diagonalization structure is constructed of the signal subspace and basis it, independent...
متن کامل0 Interstellar Seeing . I . Superresolution Techniques Using Radio Scintillations
Interstellar scintillation can be used to probe transverse sizes of radio sources on scales inaccessible to the nominal resolution of any terrestrial telescope, e.g. ∼< 10−6 arc sec. Methodology is presented that exploits this superresolution phenomenon for both single aperture and interferometer observations. The treatment applies to the saturated (strong-scattering) regime and holds for both ...
متن کاملAsymmetric Beam Combination for Optical Interferometry
Optical interferometers increasingly use single-mode fibers as spatial filters to convert varying wavefront distortion into intensity fluctuations which can be monitored for accurate calibration of fringe amplitudes. Here I propose using an asymmetric coupler to allow the photometric intensities of each telescope beam to be measured at the same time as the fringe visibility, but without the nee...
متن کاملShearlet-Based Adaptive Noise Reduction in CT Images
The noise in reconstructed slices of X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) is of unknown distribution, non-stationary, oriented and difficult to distinguish from main structural information. This requires the development of special post-processing methods based on the local statistical evaluation of the noise component. This paper presents an adaptive method of reducing noise in CT images employing th...
